Yeasayer is an experimental band based in Brooklyn, New York. The band was formed in 2006 and consists of three core members, Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton, and Anand Wilder. They first came to attention after appearing at the SXSW festival in early 2007. Their debut album All Hour Cymbals was released in October 2007. They described their music as “middle eastern-psych-snap-gospel”. Yeasayer released their second studio album, ODD BLOOD, in February 2010, featuring more pop music influences than earlier work --- The band is currently signed to Secretly Canadian.

Yeasayer / Coachella, 2010 (Mojave Tent)
Setlist:
  The Children
 Rome
Wait for the Summer / VIDEO
 2080
 Madder Red / VIDEO
 O.N.E. /  VIDEO
 Sunrise /  VIDEO
 Ambling Alp / VIDEO
      9. Tightrope
Overall, I think that was a pretty decent setlist. I would’ve been happier if they’d substituted “The Children” with “Love Me Girl”, because in my opinion, “The Children” can be a little bit tedious. Still, great set. Also, what’s up with Chris acting like he owns the stage? Surely, it wasn’t just me who caught that. Maybe that’s his way of dealing with the sudden overload of attention Yeasayer have received post the Odd Blood release. Whatever, it works.

Chris on Luke Fasano’s Departure

“Our old drummer was in a difficult position,” Keating says. “Anand and I grew up together, we’ve known each other forever, we can say harsh [stuff] to each other, but it’s on a brother level. I take his criticism seriously, but I don’t have to pull punches. Same with Ira — he’s related to Anand through marriage. So it’s difficult for someone to fit into that situation and feel like they’re inside the circle. The social dynamic is really important, because on the road you have to sleep next to each other, and that constant proximity is what breaks bands up: ‘You smell,’ ‘Stop snoring,’ ‘Stop drinking.’ It’s not ordinary for grown men to spend so much time in close proximity.

CHRIS Q&A : SEATTLE WEEKLY

Yeasayer’s playing a sold-out show tomorrow night at Neumos. I’m super stoked to hear their killer most recent record, Odd Blood, performed live, and I talked to front man Chris Keating recently about the band’s plan for the Seattle show, that Rolling Stone story, and writing songs about famous people. Read on:

You’re playing Seattle on 4/20. Got anything special planned for us?
What, for all you stoners? Not anything other than our normal spectacular show that we do night in night out.

That’s a tactful answer.
My friend builds these customized lightboxes, and we really blast retinas, so I bet if people are so inclined to be really high - and I’m sure they’re going to since that’s usually our fanbase - their minds will bug out, I guarantee it.

Yeasayer / O.N.E

This is the second single to be released from the band’s second studio LP ‘Odd Blood’. The song’s acronym title is taken its first line “One’s Not Enough.” This is the second video in which Yeasayer have collaborated with directing duo Radical Friend.

Mentions: Pitchfork (best new music),

BUY IT: ‘O.N.E’ is available as an EP including the original single, a demo, (which is ridiculously good), an XXXchange Remix and an instrumental. You can buy this EP in digital form on iTunes or as a CD/vinyl from most major and independent music stores.

Yeasayer / Ambling Alp

This is the first single to be released from the band’s second studio LP ‘Odd Blood’. The song’s title refers to the nickname of a 1930s Italian boxer Primo Carnera, who won the 1933 heavyweight championship and was an opponent of American prizefighter Joe Louis. The video was created by directing duo Radical Friend.

Ambling Alp managed to attain a solid 7 on Pitchfork’s rating system. Considering how much they seem to dislike Yeasayer, I’d say that was pretty fair. I would’ve given it an 8.5 or something, but that’s just me.
